Meeting start: 7:15
In attendance: Peter Hoffman, Augie Natal, Jake Ryan, Dick Teague, Warren Griggs, Diane Ostrander, Wayne Shelton, Zak Deustchendorf, Dana Strong (Phil joined in by phone for second half of meeting).
1) Treasurers report:
$9,979 in checking
$4,278 in savings
Peter Hoffman says the club is in good shape. The club has enough for another load of targets.
2) The town of basalt approached Peter Hoffman to ask for his input, and the BOM input, on a project for which they are seeking funding, to build noise abatement structures and on the rifle and pistol ranges.
The total cost of the project is $163,000. They are seeking the last $20,000 from town of basalt homeowners and the RFVSA. The project was discussed and there were some questions:
1. Is this the kit or will it be assembled by noise solutions.
2. How much maintenance will it need?
3. Who will build it?
4. And will it work?
The topic was tabled for now, until Phil and maybe John Winters get back into the valley.
3) Repainting of the ski houses was discussed. The topic was tabled until the club resumes spring improvement projects.
4) The BOM asked that Sue post something on the website stating that the range officers are have final authority. Sue will also type up the code of conduct rules that are posted in the club. The rules will be amended and edited and then posted on the website.
New rule: The last two shots for station eight can be taken anywhere on the 27 yard line, but not behind it. This is at the range officers complete discretion.
New business:
- The BOM met on two occasions in November. The board took action on a recent incident involving a member. The BOM also suspended the membership of one commercial members from December 1, 2010 through April 1, 2011. During this time the member can shoot at the range during public hours, but he has to pay nonmember prices and is not allowed to run commercial lessons at the range. The BOM notified the DOW of this action and the member received a register letter in the mail.
- There has been a lot of breakage in the targets. Chuck Lyons inspected the machine and did not see any problems that would lead to breakage. Dana thinks that the new targets are thin in the middle.
- Warren Griggs noted that in 2011 the 4-H insurance will cover the kids signed up in the program on 4-H shooting night and only on 4-H shooting night.
- Outstanding issue: it was noted that fill easily needs to follow up to see what the protocol should be regarding youth shooting at the club in regards to the club's insurance coverage.
- The weekend hours at the range have now been changed. On Saturdays and Sundays the range closes at 5 PM for both the public and the club side.
- The BOM requested that Diane Ostrander submit quarterly reports about the command inertial members usage at the range the reports will include dates used targets shot fees etc. Diane will submit the year-end toll bills at the end of December.
- It was discussed about some ideas to “raise the bar at the club.” We discussed purchasing T-shirts for membership or hats, jackets or T-shirts for range officers. Also new couches or benches and a new vacuum for the clubhouse. Peter Hoffman will bring a clothing catalog to share at the next meeting.
- Dick Teague announced an NRA members banquet scheduled for March. He will e-mail sue the details and she will post on the website.
- It was noted that the range officers should allow more time at the start of the day to shovel and snow blow now that it is winter.
- It was decided that member meetings should be four times a year, not three times a year. The quarterly meetings will be held in March, June, September and December.
- The BOM scheduled a closed meeting for the first Monday of February.
Meeting close 8:30 pm
